Appended below is a record of premises and memorials in various parts of the country, which have been dedicated to the memory of those who sacificed their lives in defence of our country.

Establishments Named After Distinguished Personnel/Dignitaries

PNS ZAFAR: Named after Commander Zafar Muhammad Khan (shaheed) who was the Commanding Officer of PNS/M Ghazi which was lost during 1971 war while on patrol in Bay of Bengal. The establishment was commissioned on 15 Mar 1974, and serves as the depot for all Pakistan Navy per­sonnel stationed at Islamabad.

PNS AKRAM: Named after the late Vice Admiral Afzal Rahman Khan H.Pk, HJ, HQA, who was the Commander-in-Chief from 1959 to 1966. It is the first Pakistan Navy’s establishment to be commissioned on the Makran Coast. Located at Gwadar, the establishment was commissioned on 31 Jul 1987. It serves as a forward operating base for the Navy and acts as a depot for all naval personnel stationed west of Ormara.

PNS HAFEEZ: Named after the late Vice Admiral Hasan Hafeez Ahmad who was Commander-in-Chief/Chief of the Naval Staff of Pakistan Navy from 1971 to 1975. The establishment was commissioned as a naval hospital on 24 Mar 1986.

PNS AHSAN: Named after the late Vice Admiral Syed Mohammad Ahsan S.Pk, HQA, DSC who was Commander-in-Chief of the Pakistan Navy from 1966 to 1969. The establishment was commissioned on 30 Oct 1991, and serves as the depot for all Pakistan Navy personnel stationed at Ormara.

JINNAH NAVAL BASE: Named after the founder of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the bas e is located in the Ormara East Bay,

Memorials

GHAZI MONUMENT: Named after PNS/M Ghazi (S 130) which was the Pakistan Navy’s first submarine. During the December 1971 war while deployed on a mine laying mission in approaches to the enemy port of Vishakapatnam in Bay of Bengal, an accident onboard caused her to perish along with all 93 members of her crew. To perpetuate the memory of the submarine and its 93 men crew, a monument has been constructed in Abdoze ground premises at Dockyard.

MIAN DAD JETTY & MONUMENT: Named after Lt (X) Mian Dad (shaheed) who was serving as O I/C Boat Pool in PNS Peshawar. On the night of 9 December 1971 while he was briefing the boat crew and har­bour patrol party at the warping-in-jetty he fell victim to enemy aerial bombardment of the naval dockyard area. In recognition of the martyrdom of Lt Mian Dad and his 18 mem­ber boat crew the dockyard authorities have constructed a monument at the spot where they fell and have renamed the warping-in-­jetty as Mian Dad Jetty.

ZAFAR CHOWK: Named after Commander Zafar Muhammad Khan (shaheed) who was the Commanding Officer of PNS/M Ghazi which was lost during 1971 war while on patrol in Bay of Bengal. In order to perpetuate his memory, the naval and Islamabad munici­pal authorities have named the road crossing which gives access to Naval Residential Area in Islamabad as “Zafar Chowk”.

SALIM JAVED SHAHEED ROAD: Named after Lt Salim Javed (shaheed), the road is located in the Cantonment area of Karachi. Lt Salim Javed of PNS Bakhtiyar attained shaha­dat due enemy aircraft bombing while he was fighting a fire in Chittagong port area. Lt Javed was posthumously awarded SJ.

Sailors ResidentiaI Estates (short title SREs)

SABIR SRE: Named after Sabir Hussain CPO TOI (shaheed) who attained shahadat onboard PNS/MGhazi during the 1971 War. The SRE is located near PNS Shifa on Korangi road Karachi, it was earlier known as SRE-I.

HANIF SRE: Named after Mohammad Hanif L/S (shaheed) who attained shahadat onboard PNSDacca during the 1971 War and was awarded Tamgha-i-Jurrat. The SRE is located near PNS Karsaz on Shahra-e-Faisal Karachi, it was earlier known as SRE-II.

MAJEED SRE: Named after Abdul Majeed CERA (shaheed) who attained shahadat onboard the destroyer PNS Khaibar during 1971 War and was awarded Tamgha-i-Jurrat. The SRE is located near PNS Bahadur. Dalmia Karachi, it was earlier known as SRE-ill.

NAZIR SRE: Named after Nazir Ahmed LPM (shaheed) who embraced shahadat at PNS Bakhtiyar in erstwhile East Pakistan dur­ing the 1971 War and was awarded Tamgha­i-lUffat. The SRE is located near PNS Rahbar on the Manora island Karachi, it was earlier known as SRE-IV.

HAROON BAHRIA COOPERATlVE SOCI­ETY: This residential society is named after Haroon ur Rashid SA-I (shaheed) who embraced shahadat in erstwhile East Pakistan during the 1971 War and was awarded Tamgha-i-Jurrat. The society is located near PNS Aatish at Mauripur Karachi.
